Success in Islam is not without its challenges. In fact, every blessing comes with responsibility and accountability.  Wealth, prestige and power can draw jealousy, criticism or other tests. Like tall trees facing stronger winds, life teaches us that the higher one rises the greater the trials one must face. We are reminded of this fact by the Quran:

“And We test you with evil and with good as trial; and to Us you will be returned.” (Qur’an, 21:35).

This verse highlights that everybody will get tested with success and hardship. The true value of success in Allah ﷻs eyes is determined by how one reacts to blessings whether with humility and thankfulness or with conceit and disregard.

Common Obstacles After Successes

More pressure and expectations are frequently associated with success. A person’s responsibilities increase with their status and society scrutinizes their behavior more closely. This could lead to a persistent sense of duty to perform flawlessly. Negative attention is more likely to be directed at someone who is more visible. The temptation to be arrogant and complacent is another difficulty. A false sense of security brought on by success can lead someone to feel that their hard work alone ensured the result. This arrogance can keep someone from being humble and reliant on Allah ﷻ. Success however can also breed a fear of failing. Anxiety and stress brought on by the possibility of losing what has been accomplished can have a significant negative impact on ones personal and professional life.
