Have you ever felt that the atmosphere of Ramadhan Kareem is very different compared to other months? The air before breaking the fast feels cooler, the aroma of food tempts from the kitchen, and the heart feels more peaceful. The nights are even more special with the recitation of the Qur’an, studies at the mosque, and prayers that are said with full hope.
However, Ramadhan Kareem is not just about holding back hunger and thirst. More than that, this is a golden opportunity for all of us to improve ourselves, increase our worship, and get closer to Allah. This month is the best time to increase faith and piety to become a better person, not only in the month of Ramadhan, but also after.
Why Should We Increase Faith and Piety in the Month of Ramadhan Kareem?
Ramadan Kareem is not just about fasting, but also the best time to increase faith and piety. Allah has even stated in the Qur’an:
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ كُتِبَ عَلَيْكُمُ صِّيَامُ كَمَا كُتِبَ عَلَى ٱلَّذِينَ مِن قَبْلِكُمْ لَعَلَّكُمْ تَتَّقُونَ
“O you who believe, fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you that you may become pious.” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 183)
It’s very clear, right? The main purpose of fasting in Ramadan is to form a more pious person. So, if we only endure hunger and thirst without any changes in ourselves, it’s a shame! We must really take advantage of this Ramadan Kareem to improve ourselves and get closer to Allah.

What does perfect piety look like?
Taqwa is not only about carrying out obligatory acts of worship such as prayer, fasting, zakat and hajj. More than that, piety is how we carry out all of Allah’s commands and stay away from His prohibitions in everyday life.
A devout Muslim will try to perfect his piety in his thoughts, feelings and actions. He makes piety the standard in all things, both in relation to Allah, himself and other people.
But of course, achieving perfect piety requires effort, strong intentions and ongoing commitment. Piety is not something that can be achieved overnight. That is why we must make the month of Ramadan Kareem a momentum to continue to improve our quality. Allah also confirms that the most noble people in His sight are those who are pious:
يَٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلنَّاسُ إِنَّا خَلَقْنَٰكُم مِّن ذَكَرٍ وَأُنثَىٰ وَجَعَلْنَٰكُمْ شُعُوبًا وَقَبَآئِلَ لِتَعَارَفُوٓا۟ ۚ
“O mankind, indeed We have created you from a male and a female and made you into nations and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most honorable of you in the sight of Allah is the most pious of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.” (QS. Al-Hujurat: 13)
This is why every Muslim must have aspirations to continue to increase their piety, especially in this blessed month of Ramadan.
By making piety the main goal, we not only improve worship, but also increase all awareness in worship of the rules relating to his relationship with God, himself, and other people.
