Islamic Guidance During the Layoff Storm

Several industries around the world including Indonesia have experienced waves of layoffs in recent years. In addition to creating economic anxiety this phenomenon has impacted social and psychological stability. Islam as a comprehensive religion provides answers and direction for Muslims to weather the storm of layoffs with peace and hope during such uncertain times with these tips:

Relying on Allah ﷻ and exercising patience

In Islam every adversity—including losing job—is a test from Allah ﷻ. To overcome such difficulties one must have patience (sabr) and trust in Allah (tawakkal). According to the Quran Allah ﷻ says:

We will undoubtedly put you to the test by some fear, hunger and the loss of wealth, lives and fruits and give a good news for the patients (Al-Quran Al-Baqarah:155).

Patience means accepting the situation with an open mind while working to find the best solution it does not imply passivity. Tawakkal is putting your best effort into everything and then entrusting it to Allah ﷻ.
