Quran and Ramadan: Why Are They So Special?

Imagine if there was a love letter from someone you love very much and he/she loves you too. The letter contains a message that can bring your life closer to him/her, especially if it turns out that it can make us safe in this world and the hereafter. Surely you will read it attentively, right?

Now, imagine that the love letter is the Quran, and the one who sent it is Allah ﷻ.

The Quran is not just a holy book, but also a guide to life that Allah ﷻ has revealed for us. And what is special is that this book was first revealed in the month of Ramadan. That is why this month is also called the month of the Quran.

But, what is the special relationship between the Quran and Ramadan? Why is this month the best time to get closer to the Quran? Let’s discuss it further!

Quran and Ramadan: An Inseparable Relationship

Every Ramadan, Muslims around the world compete to get closer to the Quran. This is not without reason because the Koran and Ramadan have a strong bond, even Allah ﷻ Himself confirms it in His words:

“The month of Ramadan is the month in which (the beginning of) the Koran was revealed as guidance for mankind, and explanations regarding that guidance, as well as the distinction (between what is right and what is false).”

(QS. Al-Baqarah: 185)

The revelation of the Koran began on the night of Laylatul Qadar, a night that is said to be better than a thousand months.

“Indeed, We have sent it down (the Koran) on the night of glory (Lailatul Qadar). And do you know what the night of glory is? The night of glory is better than a thousand months.” (QS. Al-Qadr: 1-3)

So, Ramadan is not just about fasting, but also a golden opportunity to get closer to the Koran.

Rasulullah ﷺ himself always read and repeated the Koran more in the month of Ramadan. In a hadith it is stated:

“Jibril met the Prophet ﷺ every night in the month of Ramadan, then recited the Quran to him. In the year of his death, Jibril recited it twice.” (Narrated by Al-Bukhari & Muslim)

From this we know, Ramadan is indeed the best time to get closer to the Quran, as exemplified by the Prophet ﷺ.

The Virtues of Reading the Quran in the Month of Ramadan

Reading the Quran in the month of Ramadan is not just an ordinary worship. There are many virtues that we can get, including:

1. Multiple Rewards

Every letter we read from the Quran is counted as goodness, and one goodness is multiplied many times, especially if read in the month of Ramadan.

“Whoever reads one letter from the Book of Allah (Quran), then for him one good deed, and that one good deed is multiplied tenfold.”

(HR. At-Tirmidzi)

Just imagine if we could finish one juz every day, how much reward could we collect?

2. The Quran Will Be an Intercessor on the Day of Judgment

On the Day of Judgment, the Quran can be a helper for those who read it.

And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Read the Qur’an, for verily it will come on the Day of Resurrection as an intercessor for its readers.” (Narrated by Muslim)

The more often we read the Qur’an, the greater our hope of receiving its intercession later.

3. Get the Blessings of Lailatul Qadar

One of the reasons why we are advised to read the Quran more in the month of Ramadan is because of Lailatul Qadar.

“Indeed, We have sent it down (the Quran) on the Night of Power (Lailatul Qadar). And what do you know what the Night of Power is? It is better than a thousand months.” (QS. Al-Qadr: 1-3)

If we worship on that night, the reward is counted as better than worship for 83 years! So, don’t waste this opportunity.
