Sustenance is a gift from Allah ﷻ bestowed upon all His creatures. In seeking sustenance, Muslims are taught to strive and pray. Therefore, a Muslim may need to know how to pray a dua’ in Islam. Here are some dua’ for opening the doors of sustenance as taught in Islam:
1. Dua’ for Abundant and Blessed Sustenance
Therefore, we can practice asking for abundant and blessed sustenance:
اللَّهُمَّ أكْثِرْ مَالِي، وَوَلَدِي، وَبَارِكْ لِي فِيمَا أعْطَيْتَنِي وَأطِلْ حَيَاتِي عَلَى طَاعَتِكَ، وَأحْسِنْ عَمَلِي وَاغْفِرْ لِي
“O Allah, increase my wealth and my children, and bless me in what You have given me. Prolong my life in Your obedience, improve my deeds, and forgive me.”
2. Dua’ for Protection from Unlawful Sustenance
Here is a Dua’ that we can practice to seek protection from unlawful sustenance:
اللَّهُمَّ اكْفِنِى بِحَلاَلِكَ عَنْ حَرَامِكَ وَأَغْنِنِى بِفَضْلِكَ عَمَّنْ سِوَاكَ
“O Allah, suffice me with what is lawful from what is unlawful, and make me independent by Your grace from anyone other than You.”

3. Dua’ for Halal and Pure Sustenance after Subuh Prayer
Every Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, used to pray after the Fajr Dua’. After the Dua’, he would recite the following supplication:
اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ عِلْمًا نَافِعًا وَرِزْقًا طَيِّبًا وَعَمَلًا مُتَقَبَّلًا
“O Allah, indeed, I ask You for beneficial knowledge, halal sustenance, and accepted deeds.”
3. Dua’ for Sustenance between Two Prostrations
The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, recited the following Dua between two prostrations, according to a hadith that Ibn Abbas narrated:
رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لِي ، وَارْحَمْنِي ، وَاجْبُرْنِي ، وَارْفَعْنِي ، وَارْزُقْنِي ، وَاهْدِنِي
“My Lord, forgive me, have mercy on me, suffice me, elevate me, provide for me, and guide me.”
5. Dua’ for Extensive and Effortless Sustenance
Here is a Dua’ that we can practice to ask for extensive and effortless sustenance:
اَللَّهُمَّ إِنِّيْ أَسْئَلُكَ أَنْ تَرْزُقَنِيْ رِزْقًا حَلاَلاً وَاسِعًا طَيِّبًا مِنْ غَيْرِ تَعَبٍ وَلاَ مَشَقَّةٍ وَلاَ ضَيْرٍ إِنَّكَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْئٍ قَدِيْرٌ
“O Allah, I ask You to provide me with lawful, extensive, and good sustenance without fatigue, difficulty, or harm. Indeed, You are capable of everything.”
Dua’ is one of the most powerful tools for Muslims. Through Dua’, a Muslim can overcome various life challenges, including those related to sustenance. May Allah guide us to always pray when facing life’s difficulties and to make our Dua’ a solution to those problems.
