Intention to Fast Qadha Ramadhan: Don’t Make a Mistake!
Have a Ramadan fasting debt that hasn’t been repaid? But don’t know for sure the law regarding the intention to fast Qadha Ramadhan? So that your worship is valid and without doubt, let’s discuss it thoroughly here! Starting from reading the intention to fast for Qadha Ramadhan, the best time to make Qadha, to the consequences if you continue to procrastinate.
Why Should You Make Up for Fasting in Ramadan?
Not everyone can observe the full Ramadan fast for a month. There are several conditions that allow us not to fast, for example if we are sick, on a long journey, or for women who are menstruating or postpartum. However, that doesn’t mean that fasting that is left behind can simply be ignored.
In Islam, missed Ramadan fasts must be made up or made up at another time before the next Ramadan. This is in accordance with the words of Allah ﷻ in the Qur’an:
فَمَن كَانَ مِنكُم مَّرِيضًا أَوْ عَلَىٰ سَفَرٍ فَعِدَّةٌ message فِدْيَةٌ طَعَامُ مِسْكِينٍ ۖ فَمَن تَطَوَّعَ خَيْرًَ God willing تَعْلَمُونَ
“So whoever among you is sick or on a journey (and then he breaks his fast), then (must make up for it) as many days as he missed on other days…” (QS. Al-Baqarah: 184).
So, if you still have a fasting debt, let’s make it up immediately before it’s too late! Don’t delay, because if it passes the time limit without a clear reason, there are additional consequences such as fidyah. The sooner we make it up, the lighter our responsibility before Allah ﷻ. In addition, knowing the correct intention of qadha Ramadan fasting is also important so that our worship is valid and accepted.

Reading the Intention of Fasting Qadha Ramadhan
Every worship in Islam always begins with an intention, including when performing fasting qadha Ramadhan. This intention is very important because it is a requirement for the validity of fasting. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:
الأعمالُ بالنيةِ ولكلّ امرئٍ ما نوى
“All actions depend on their intentions, and (the reward) for each person (depends on) what he intended” (HR. Bukhari)
In addition, there is also special evidence about the intention of fasting in Ramadan from the hadith of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ:
منْ لمْ يُجمِعْ الصِّيَامَ
And the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “Whoever does not intend to fast before dawn, then there is no fast for him.” (Narrated by Abu Dawud)
From this hadith, it is very clear that the intention must be made before dawn breaks. Well, here is the intention to make up for the fasting of Ramadan that you can read if you want to pronounce it:
نويت صوم غدٍ عن قضاء فرض شهر رمضان للّه تعالى
Nawaitu shauma ghadin ‘an qadha’i fardhi syahri Ramadhana lillahi ta’ala.
It means: “I intend to make up for the fasting of the month of Ramadan tomorrow because of Allah ﷻ.”
Actually, this intention is enough in the heart, but if it is pronounced, it doesn’t matter either. The important thing is to make sure that your intention is sincere because of Allah ﷻ so that your fasting is truly accepted.

Can You Combine the Intention of Qadha Fasting with Sunnah Fasting?
Many are curious, can the intention of qadha fasting in Ramadan be combined with sunnah fasting such as Monday-Thursday or fasting in Shawwal? The answer is yes!
The majority of scholars allow it because you can still get the reward of sunnah fasting even though the main intention is qadha. However, there are also those who suggest that it be separated so that the reward is more optimal. If you want to combine it, just have the intention to fast qadha Ramadan like the intention of fasting qadha Ramadan that we have discussed above. So, it can be combined to make it more practical, the important thing is not to delay the qadha fasting in Ramadan, okay?

Conclusion
Carrying out qadha fasting in Ramadan is not just about making up for missed days, but also proof of our obedience to Allah ﷻ. For the fast to be valid, don’t forget the intention! The intention of qadha fasting in Ramadan must be done before dawn, because without the intention, the fast may not be accepted. Rasulullah ﷺ himself has emphasized that every deed depends on its intention. So, let’s have the right intention and sincerity, so that our worship is not in vain and gets blessings. May Allah ﷻ make it easy for us to fulfill the qadha fast of Ramadan. Aamiin!
