Silaturrahim is an important tradition in our culture that emphasises the importance of maintaining good relationships with family, friends and the community. In today’s digital era, this concept can be applied in various aspects of life, including in crowdfunding activities. This article will discuss how silaturrahim and crowdfunding can work together, and provide a practical guide to utilising both for the common good.

What is Silaturrahim?

Silaturrahim comes from the words ‘sillah’ which means relationship and ‘rahim’ which means love. In Islam, silaturrahim is an effort to maintain good relationships with others, especially family and relatives. The Qur’an and hadith mention the importance of silaturrahim and its benefits, both in this world and in the hereafter.

Silaturrahim in the Qur’an and Hadith

In the Qur’an, Allah ta’ala says:

وَالَّذِينَ يَصِلُونَ مَا أَمَرَ اللَّهُ بِهِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسَابِ أَنْ يُوصَلَ وَيَخْشَوْنَ رَبَّهُمْ وَيَخَافُونَ سُوءَ الْحِسَابِ.

And those who connect what Allah has commanded to be connected, and they fear their Lord and dread an evil reckoning. (Ar-Ra’d: 21)

The hadiths of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) also reinforce the importance of silaturrahim. One hadith narrated by Abu Hurairah states:

مَنْ سَرَّهُ أَنْ يُبْسَطَ لَهُ فِى رِزْقِهِ ، وَأَنْ يُنْسَأَ لَهُ فِى أَثَرِهِ ، فَلْيَصِلْ رَحِمَهُ

‘Whoever likes to have his sustenance expanded and his life prolonged should establish friendship.’ (HR. Bukhari no. 5985 and Muslim no. 2557)

Understanding Crowdfunding

Crowdfunding is a fundraising method that involves the participation of many people. Usually done through online platforms, crowdfunding allows individuals or organisations to raise funds from various parties to fund a specific project or initiative. In Indonesia itself, there are many platforms that can be used for crowdfunding such as Kitabisa for social platforms, and Securities Crowdfunding platforms such as nabitu for social fundraising platforms.
